Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
